Couture Fashion Extravaganza!!!

I have been invited to showcase some pieces for a fashion show for an Aids awareness event titled: Pre-World AIDS Day:AIDS. Of course, with these designs I will add my little twist to give them all extra flair. The event is Saturday, November 14, 2009 for all those in the Pittsburgh Area. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Pittburgh, University Center 100 Lyton Ave. 15213. That's in Oakland, for those who don't know, right across from the Cathedral of Learning, Pitt Campus. The Ole Almater!!!

I am so excited about this Jacket, this is in the new Vogue book just put out. I got 6 patterns, but this one I am doing two coats: one in red, and one in celery, view b

This pattern I have had for 1 or 2 years and never used it. But, I love this pattern, I have to see that special fabric in order to make something. Well, wait til you see what I got. I will be doing two jackets: one in a brown artsy fabric with yarn overlay and the other in two fabric textures of the same color: burnt orange, the scarf is textured and the jacket portion is soft and supple. I can't wait to finish the project. I think I am going to add pockets, I can't have a coat w/o pockets!

I will be doing this one in a gold or dark mustard cordoruy in view c also, time permitting, I have a bronze metallic fabric I will do in view a. I hope I can get it all done with going to school and working and grandchildren!!! I believe God gave me this opportunity so I won't complain!! Thanks Marla for the invite!!! I appreciate it!!

New Look 6755

I promise to improve on the picture taking, the color is a little off. Nevertheless, I made view "b". Will I make this again? Only to prove I can do it better, not because I liked the construction of the blouse. It got fussy for me around the collar. I need more practice on sewing skills!!! And I think using georgette didn't help matters. So, if I did make this again I won't use georgette!!! The fabric ravelled a lot. Not good.

Pat was the only student that finished her dress. I think it was a simplicity and it turned really nice. She had sewing experience it was a really easy project for her. Great job Pat!!!

Finally back w Pics!-Vogue 8278

I should have used a darker interfacing or covered it with fabric before adding to front panel, that is one lesson I learned working with georgette. I added some stones, I was going to cover the whole area to camoflage the interfacing, maybe later, maybe never, I"ll just move on to the next project.

I added a cami because the top of course is see thru. I edged it with the georgette around the neck and arm facing.

The outfit fit really good, it was a tad bit wide across the shoulders, I will definitelymake this again, except I won't use georgette. My picture taking skills needs a lot of improvement but the fabric has a tye dye look and it crinkles. I love the fabric.

Although, I haven't been out here in a while, I hope everyone is doing great!!. These are the patterns I worked on this summer along with the blouse from New Look a while back. The New Look blouse was not the hugh success I had hoped, but nevertheless it is complete. The Hannah Montana pattern #3515, I made two dresses for my granddaughter and I looovvveee them!!!. I promise to take pictures and post next time. The two Vogue outfits you see our my current projects. The dress I made in the wrong measurements and have to buy more fabric, that's why you should always buy much more than what you think you need. The other two piece is almost done. I added a cami to the top because the blouse is made from georgette. I am very happy with that project. PICTURES ARE COMING SOON!!! Have a blessed day!!

Fine Designs First Sewing class held today!

Well I taught my first sewing class today. We met at JoAnn Fabrics to buy patterns, notions and materials. I have three ladies and one senior in high school who I am helping with her senior project. We had so much fun trailing in line one behind the other going from isle to isle. The senior I am working with is Janessa, the one I did her prom dress. She is doing a fashion show of her schools uniform...her version of what the uniforms should look like. It's fun but tiring because we are ripping apart old outfits and using the fabric to make new ones. Pictures!!! I know!! I promise they are coming.

Hi everybody, I hope everyone had a wonderful day. This is the pattern I cut out all the views. I am making view b first which is the sleeveless blouse, since I am making it out of georgette, I have to cut out a tank to go underneath. It's more work, I know, but it'll be worth it. Tomorrow is a busy day for me ( or rather in a few hrs). I start w Bally's in the morning, then church in the mid morning with breakfast served afterwards and then off to work, Whew!!! I better get to bed and get some sleep, cause I'm gonna need it!!! Be Blessed!!!

I hope people are reading my page, I have no idea if anyone sees it or even know I exist. Anyway, I will continue to find ways to build repore through the blog. Let me know if you visit my page. I finally got the orange fabric for my living room pillows, I just can't scan anything right now because my printer needs black ink and I took the cartridge out of the printer so it won't do anything. I can't wait to go get the orange paint. I finally finished my dining room, it's a musard yellow. I just have to decorate now, you know.... wall hangings, etc. And I cut out a blouse pattern from New Look. Pictures of my projects will be coming!! I am also finishing up a Vogue 3 piece that I started 2(?) years ago!lol. Is that ridiculous or what! Anyway, my kids say I am everywhere, I make their heads spin, but I like it. I start my day early so I can do as much as possible. It's the life of being unemployed and I am taking advantage of it while I have the chance. Have a great day!! Be Blessed!!!

These are my precious grandchildren. This pic was taken last year so some growing has taken place since last June. Trinity(7 yrs old) is on the far left, Jada( 4 yrs old) is in the middle and Tyrell(4 yrs old) is on the right.

This is my inspiration picture for my living room. I am so excited to splash just "one wall" with that orange. I wish I could get those chairs but that's ok. I have the couch in cream leather and the leopard throw and pillows. I still have to shop for the pillows and paint. I don't know what happens come Christmas, I'll cross that bridge when I get there, right now, I'm going for sunkist orange!!!

My Prom Project

This is Janessa and Richard. Janessa goes to a private girl's high school and their proms are not so formal so she wanted something just a step up from a party dress but not as formal as a prom dress. I think she did it. She was inspired by a picture and so off to JoAnn's we went looking to put something together. The top is from McCall's M5321 and the skirt is from Simplicity 3878. I'll get better and pictures and photography as I go. I am having fun learning!!
